Introducing new Google Spreadsheets features

Tuesday, April 28, 2009 | 12:58 PM

Hello,

We've recently rolled out an update to Google Spreadsheets. Here are some highlights:

Sheet Protection: spreadsheet owners can use the sheet protection feature to lock sheets so they can only be edited by collaborators the owner chooses. Details here: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=144687

List view and Mobile view Improvements: now you can see your spreadsheets with all their formatting in List View and on your mobile device, including background/foreground colors, borders and text formatting! More about List View here: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=139561

Let anyone view/edit through 'Get the link to share': We replaced old 'Share with the world' functionality with simpler 'Get the link to share.' More details here: http://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=96346 As always your sheet can only be accessed by those you gave permission to through the 'Invite people' dialog in the share menu.

There are some other improvements we are introducing in this release:

More List view tricks: we have added a prompt to save changes before switching to List view if there are any changes pending and ability to filter on an empty field.

Forms 'Do's' and 'Dont's':
we will now show a warning if you try to do the following actions in the spreadsheet associated with the form: delete column, move column, unfreeze all rows, sort a sheet with 0 frozen rows.

And last, but not least, the list of bugs which should not be happening anymore:

* Can't add new collaborators/remove collaborators to specific spreadsheets (Note: this issue has been affecting a small number of spreadsheets) - FIXED

* Can't upload .xlsx file (error 'Sorry there was an error uploading. Try again later') - FIXED

* Spreadsheet is stuck on 'Updating...' - FIXED

* Save button is not enabled in change notification for cell range notification - FIXED

* Published gadget is not accessible when gadget title is added after publishing - FIXED

* "Email everyone' button is not working in Forms in Firefox 3 - FIXED

Enjoy!
