Google Spreadsheets - List view, Data validation and more!

Hello spreadsheet users,

I am very happy to tell you about several new features we just introduced in Google Spreadsheets.

Data validation. With two levels of validation, strict and lenient, you can now control what you and your collaborators enter into a spreadsheet. More details here.

List view. This 'lightweight' version of Google Spreadsheets will allow you to do quick edits when you are on a slow Internet connection, when there are more than 50 people accessing your spreadsheet at the same time, and when accessing Google Spreadsheets from some select mobile devices. Details are here, and here's also post by Eric Bogs, lead engineer, with some timely Valentine-Day-themed advice.

Form summary for your collaborators. You can now let your collaborators see summary of form responses. Here's how to do it.

We've also fixed the following bugs:

Fixed: error messages when attempting to add more than 40 sheets to a spreadsheet. You can now add up to a 100 sheets.

Fixed: Australia locale added to 'Settings.'

Fixed: Date picker only available in English. You can now see Date picker in any of the languages Google Spreadsheets is offered in. Note: to change the language in a spreadsheet, go to your Docs list -> Settings -> Languages.

Fixed: data in frozen columns not displayed when exporting to .html.

Fixed: formatting of a spreadsheet (bold, color of a background) is changed upon saving and reopening.

Fixed: on a Mac, scrolling horizontally in a touch-pad, causes Spreadsheets scroll-bar to scroll vertically.

Additionally, we have revised Google Spreadsheets size limits as stated in Help Center. We have brought limits on formulas such as GoogleFinance and GoogleLookup down while raised the limit on formula complexity twice. We will continue working on increasing Spreadsheets limits while balancing the bandwidth serving certain formulas takes with introducing new features.

Looking forward to receiving your feedback!

Christine
